Alloy Workshop in Paderborn: From Idea to Prototype
Last week, our partners Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen (LKR) and Paderborn University, carried out a small hands-on alloy design and casting workshop together.
The workshop, conducted within Work Package 2 of the Digi4Circular project, focused on collaborative alloy development, combining expertise from both teams through intensive brainstorming sessions and iterative optimization loops.
As a result of this joint effort, we successfully cast our newly developed high-performance alloy in-house using a custom-designed wedge mold. This setup allows us to investigate the influence of different cooling rates, linking processing conditions to microstructure evolution and resulting mechanical properties.
The photo shows the cast aluminium wedge produced during the workshop, representing a tangible outcome of this rapid development process.
From idea to prototype in just a few days.
